Sunday, June 6th - Carmichael Park Band Festival - This is the 3rd year our band has performed at this festival. As we prepared to hit the first note of the concert, we were surprised to see many of our friends and family putting on t-shirts that said 3 Note Band. I'm sure everyone could see us smiling! Not only did they say 3 Note Band but they had everyone's name and the instrument they play. It turned out that Jay Stowe had designed the shirts, had them made, and contacted many of our friends and family who preordered them. What a GREAT surprise!! Thank you Jay!
As our fan club settled, we started playing the 1st song, Strike Up The Band. We continued to play a variety of tunes chosen by Maestrini Frueh, that kept the crowd entertained; from Big Band, show tunes, march music, and even one song with a latin flair. Pirates of the Caribbean is always a crowd pleaser especially when the band members put on their special pirate accessories before playing the tune. Then our own Bev, (normally a trumpet player) kept up the entertainment by playing about a dozen different percussion instruments for Paraphernalia Polka all while wearing her festive hat. It was a fun performance that everyone seemed to enjoy. We even wanted to watch instead of playing. This was also our first park performance with our singer Mickey. She was great, singing many songs including Bill Bailey & Dixieland Salute. We're so glad to have found her while performing at one of our venues.
But we couldn't do all this without our wonderful and dedicated Maestrini Dorothy Frueh, who has instilled in each one of us a deep love and passion for music. Thanks to her and to our wonderful friends and family for supporting us! See you at our next concert in December.

We played a spring concert at Country Club Manor on Wednesday, April 21st. This was our first concert with our talented singer, Jean, who we discovered while performing our holiday concert at the manor. She sang beautifully and really surprised the employees and residents since many didn't know she sang. We always love performing for the residents and they really enjoy it too! They're already asking us when we'll be coming back.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for our next performance. We'll be playing at Carmichael Park on Sunday, June 6th at 11:00.
A big thanks to our Director Dorothy Frueh!! Because of her hard work, dedication, and passion for music, we're able to share the gift of music with you. Hope to see you at Carmichael Park.

3 Note Band
In Dec. 2006 Dorothy Frueh was asked if she would teach some friends to play 3 notes on band instruments so they could play Christmas songs at an annual party. Of course, it would take a few more than 3 notes but she decided to do it. Eleven people attended 3 lessons where the fingerings were written in and instruction was centered around making a sound. The band performed at the party and the musicians were so excited they wanted to continue to play. In January 2007 our first official rehearsal took place. Most of the musicians had never played an instrument or read music before, though some had played in school almost 20-30 years ago. It's now been 3 years and we're still going strong. The group has 17 band members and recently added a singer. Our mission is to share our gift of music especially with those who need a lift. We make weekly birthday phone calls and perform annually at the Carmichael Park Community Band Festival. We also play a family and friend's concert, perform at the Children's Receiving Home, and at an assisted living facility. In 2009 we became members of the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association.
