3 Note Band

In Dec. 2006 Dorothy Frueh was asked if she would teach some friends to play 3 notes on band instruments so they could play Christmas songs at an annual party. Of course, it would take a few more than 3 notes but she decided to do it. Eleven people attended 3 lessons where the fingerings were written in and instruction was centered around making a sound. The band performed at the party and the musicians were so excited they wanted to continue to play. In January 2007 our first official rehearsal took place. Most of the musicians had never played an instrument or read music before, though some had played in school almost 20-30 years ago. It's now been 3 years and we're still going strong. The group has 17 band members and recently added a singer. Our mission is to share our gift of music especially with those who need a lift. We make weekly birthday phone calls and perform annually at the Carmichael Park Community Band Festival. We also play a family and friend's concert, perform at the Children's Receiving Home, and at an assisted living facility. In 2009 we became members of the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association.
